The Real Thanksgiving
I heard this on Rush's show yesterday and found it very interesting. The pilgrims originally were supposed to run the new country as a sort of Socialized commune where everyone would work together and each would get a share of the results of their labor.
The original contract the Pilgrims had entered into with their merchant-sponsors in London called for everything they produced to go into a common store, and each member of the community was entitled to one common share. All of the land they cleared and the houses they built belong to the community as well.
Already back then the Pilgrims realized that Socialism would not work and they rejected the orders given them by the merchant-sponsors.
[William] Bradford assigned a plot of land to each family to work and manage, thus turning loose the power of the marketplace.
I find it interesting that the idea of Socialism was rejected so early in the history of this great country. Unfortunately this is not taught in our schools anywhere.

My thanks to the great people of this country for choosing the right man for the job.
