It was quite a experience to see all the grads dressed in their formal attire on that hot summer-like day. It made me proud to see him and his classmates accepting the charge to "protect and defend the constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic". They were all quite honored by the fact that their commencement speaker was Vice President Dick Cheney. He had quite a speech and considering the crowd it was well received. I heard of only a couple of protestors who had the audacity of putting up signs saying "Weapons of Mass Destruction" with arrows pointing towards where the graduation was being held. Oh well a couple of wackos did nothing to destroy the great feelings of patriotism and pride for all of the young men and women who made the choice to serve bravely for all of us........ even the wackos.

He's up there somewhere?!?! Click the watch the commercial link.

To imply that other churches would turn away gays, old people, minorities and handicapped people is just ridiculous. The United Church of Christ has gone over the top by airing this commercial, and they need to be called on the carpet for it. They are doing nothing but weakening the message of Christ by implying that other denominations are bigoted and would turn anyone away.

As my friend Brian said to me after he saw the commercial, "I'm quite offended at the implication that all Christian churches outside of the UCC faith reject people... we reject sin... not the person..."

The United Church of Christ at a quick glance looks to be a church that follows the teachings of Christ and truly wants to include everyone in their worship. I will need to do more research into this at a later time to see if there is anything in their teachings that do not comply with the teachings of Christ.

The United Church of Christ is falling into the same trap that modern Liberals have seemed to fall into. They are preaching tolerance but not showing it towards their fellow believers. They are painting all other denominations as bigoted homophobes that require a litmus test in order to share in the Grace of Jesus Christ. The UCC has chosen to scare the general populous into the idea that if you join any other church you simply aren't a follower of the true teaching of Christ. It is true that Jesus taught us to be tolerant, of people, not sin. Jesus repeatedly warned against accepting sin and urged His followers to reject it. Jesus preached that people need to be forgiven, but urged them to go and sin no more. He was tolerant of the people not the choices that people had made.

The UCC has chosen fear to try and increase their patronage, but in the end they are damaging the true message of Christ.

Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really knew me, you would know My Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him."
John 14:6&7

Social Security

A couple of links to help the cause.

Social Security petition at Progress for America

A handy little calculator brought to you from Dave Ramsey, to show exactly what you are missing if this doesn't pass.

Baby has arrived!!!!!

Nathaniel Jacob was born on February 10 at 5:20 PM. The pilgrims originally were supposed to run the new country as a sort of Socialized commune where everyone would work together and each would get a share of the results of their labor.

The original contract the Pilgrims had entered into with their merchant-sponsors in London called for everything they produced to go into a common store, and each member of the community was entitled to one common share. All of the land they cleared and the houses they built belong to the community as well.

Already back then the Pilgrims realized that Socialism would not work and they rejected the orders given them by the merchant-sponsors.

[William] Bradford assigned a plot of land to each family to work and manage, thus turning loose the power of the marketplace.

I find it interesting that the idea of Socialism was rejected so early in the history of this great country. Unfortunately this is not taught in our schools anywhere.

Go here to read the rest of the transcript, or listen to it if you wish.

HOORAY!!!!!!!!!

My thanks to the great people of this country for choosing the right man for the job.

Gun Education for Kids

This is a very good tool for beginning your child's education on the proper use of firearms, including some history. My Grandma died a couple of days ago. It's kind of a bittersweet passing. She and my Grandpa were involved in a serious car accident a few years ago, my Grandpa ended up dying from injuries he received. Ever since that accident my Grandma has gone down hill rapidly due to Alzheimer's and dementia. We really didn't see a whole lot of her in the last couple of years due to the fact that she didn't know who we were. She got to see the youngest of our two children, but she had no idea who he was. So in a way were glad that she has gone to be with God and isn't suffering any longer. It's still hard to see her go though and we will continually miss her.

Still Here

Just a quick post letting you know I'm still around. It tells of my deep faith I have in the death and resurrection of Christ that has freed me from my sins and that I have been forgiven and accepted as a child of God. It also reminds me of my commitment to my family. To love them with the same attitude that Christ had for us, that I would gladly die in order to protect them from harm.

Second is the flag. I love this country, and I'm not ashamed to say that it is the best place in the world to live. I may get frustrated with some of the things that people say and do, but I'm glad that we have the freedom to debate and say what we want. I'm proud to have served this country in the U.S. Army, and to have defended this country and protect it's allies.

Third is G.W. What can I say? He's the man!! While I don't agree with everything he does (immigration and Medicare to name a couple), I'm truly glad that he is the Commander and Chief of our military during this time. I think he has got the resolve to see the war on terror through as far as it needs to go. Can we win the WOT? I don't know, but he will continue to fight it as we all should.

Lastly is the picture of the desert. See the cliff way to the left on the picture? That is where I would like to live. 'Why would you want to live there?' you may ask, mainly because there are no cities anywhere near there. If I didn't work in the city I would never go there. My wife is always talking about going to Chicago for a weekend, this would be absolute torture for me. I despise cities, too many people (and liberals) to suit me. I prefer wide open places where I can enjoy the weather and clean air. My wife and I have more than once thought of moving to Montana just to get out in the middle of nowhere and start over. The only thing keeping us here is the close proximity of our families (though sometimes it's them we want to get away from), and friends. Brian and his lovely wife being some of the best friends we've come to know.

So thanks Brian for the friendship and the new banner. You nailed it!

The Man to Vote For

I wasn't going to write on President Bush's speech. There are better writers than I who have no doubt done a better job with it, but I can't help it. This man is such a man of compassion, and conviction that I had to put my two cents in. I didn't watch the whole speech last night. The beginning of it sounded like any other political speech at election time full of promises and hopes that we all hope will come true but probably won't. So I went to bed and taped the rest. I ended up watching it at lunch, and wished I had stayed up for the whole thing. The second half really touched the heart and soul of this man. The compassion of this man and the honor he feels at leading this great nation of ours is immensely evident.

This part really touched me.

And I have met with parents and wives and husbands who have received a folded flag, and said a final goodbye to a soldier they loved. I am awed that so many have used those meetings to say that I am in their prayers - to offer encouragement to me. Where does strength like that come from? How can people so burdened with sorrow also feel such pride? It is because they know their loved one was last seen doing good. Because they know that liberty was precious to the one they lost. And in those military families, I have seen the character of a great nation: decent, and idealistic, and strong.

Being a veteran of the first Gulf War I count myself extremely blessed to have been able to return home unperforated and in one piece. I count it an honor to have served under President George H.W. Bush.

I can't imagine the sorrow of having lost loved ones to the murderers that are fighting our troops in Iraq. Yet they feel no hatred towards President Bush, just the opposite is true. To have to send young men and women into harms way for what you believe in has to be the hardest job on Earth, but President Bush had the resolve to do it. You can see the sorrow he feels for the families during his speech. While he was speaking the words above, he had a hard time keeping himself composed enough to complete them. President Bush made the hard decision to chase the murderers to the ends of the Earth and exterminate them. It's a costly decision in terms of human life, but he knows that America is up to the task.

I have such pride at being able count myself among those ranks of soldiers that have performed their duties and help to release nations from tyranny. My wife is worried that I might get all nostalgic and sign back up. The situation for me is way different than it was during the first war. I have a family that depends on me, and my body is getting to worn out for me to consider re-joining. But I still will choose to honor those who have made the choice to put their lives on hold and take up this struggle that we will most certainly win. I have every confidence in our troops, and hope and pray that they will return home safely.

My vote is for George W. Bush. The man who can lead us through this time of struggle with out wavering or capitulating to the will of others. This is man of compassion that struggles with the hard decisions yet has the resolve to see them through.

Help A fellow blogger

Joel Gaines over at No Pundit Intended has a problem. I’m saying thanks to a man that probably has no idea that he made such a profound difference in my life.

Mike is a man that goes to my church, and also went to a previous church that I attended for a while when I was younger. During my high school years I was involved with the youth group at my church. We would meet every other Sunday evening after church at one of the leaders houses, do some eating and have a little fellowship. One of those times Mike and his wife came and talked with us about alcohol abuse. They had first hand experience with this since Mike had been an alcoholic. Mike started out by telling us the highs and lows of his ride. He talked about how good the alcohol made him feel and how it almost ruined his life. He talked about how after work he and his co-workers would kick back at the body shop he either owned or worked at, (I can’t remember now which) and spend the evening there getting drunk.

Then his wife talked to us about how difficult it is living with someone who is addicted. How she spent time wondering if he was going to make it home without getting into an accident, and how hard it was to deal with some one who doesn’t realize that they have a problem. The pain that she felt was very evident as she told us all of the things they went through, all the things they lost, and all the time wasted by his addiction.

Mike urged us to never fall into the trap that alcohol can lead you into. He wanted to make clear the dangers and pitfalls that are associated with being addicted.

Since that time I can honestly tell you that I have never abused alcohol. Not once. I never even drank a drink until I was about 23 years old. If I drink alcohol I will only have one or two, but if I plan on driving anytime soon I won’t have any.

Mike’s influence on my life in this respect has truly been profound. Due to his courage in coming before a group of high school kids and exposing himself and his faults and mistakes he had made earlier in his life he affected more than just my life. As I raise my kids and they get to the age that they can start drinking I will have Mike’s experiences and life to fall on to show them the dangers they are facing.

Mike also showed me a lesson in being a man. He wasn’t afraid to expose himself and let his mistakes be known. So many times we feel we must be perfect in order to be able to teach our children the things they need to know in this life. We need to be able to point to our mistakes and use our experience to show our children what we have learned and help them to not make the same mistakes we have. Thanks to Mike I never even had to face the possibility of being addicted to alcohol. It wasn’t even an option to me since he pressed on me the seriousness of the situation.

Mike ended up going to AA and getting his life in order, he’s been sober now for I believe 17 years (again I can’t remember exactly.) He had to make a lot of difficult decisions. He had to let go of the “fun” life he had while he was abusing alcohol and getting away from the things that tempted him. He has since also broken his addiction to cigarettes. His only “addiction” now is coffee and his love for God. I don’t think there’s any hope for the first, and I enjoy seeing the second. He is an active member of our church, does AV on some Sundays, thoroughly enjoys his life with his wife (they do ballroom dancing together.) He’s not afraid to stand in the front row at church and praise God with all his heart. I’m glad that he was put into my life at such a critical time.

So thanks Mike for your courage and great example.

Important link:

AA

Happy Anniversary

Today my wife and I are celebrating our 9th wedding anniversary. There was a self serving side to it all. He did not seem to have gone to war for the country and come back to protest in America to save his fellow veterans. He seems to have done these things for John Kerry. From Al Gore to John Kerry we are being subjected to a group of veterans who have been shunned by true combat Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines for years. I would like to see the Democrats march out some candidate who at least finished a full tour in my war. JUST ONE! Even General Clark did that. We must honor him for that service.

What they are really saying

This is what the men who served with John Kerry think of him. What are they really voting for? They don't really like Kerry, they just hate Bush.

Democrats gather in Boston this week with a spring in their step but not quite a song in their heart. They have good reason to believe they can win back the White House this November. But their anticipation is based less on their confidence in their agenda than on the intensity of their anger at President Bush. They are the Anybody--Anything--But Bush Democrats.

It further goes on to point out that they may win due to the intense anger they feel.

Anger has won more than one election in U.S. history, and--especially in this age of polarization--intensity and turnout matter.

How wrong it is to presume that just because you hate Bush that Kerry will be the better choice. Let's take a look at some of the ideas that John Kerry is trying to bring forward as brought to light in this article.

If any new Big Idea lurks, it is probably national health care, though even this dares not speak its name. Mr. Kerry's proposal amounts to a huge new taxpayer obligation ($653 billion over 10 years, by the Kerry camp's own reckoning), but it is disguised in large part as a federal subsidy for business in return for covering all employees.

What's a good way to stimulate the economy? Lets add $653 billion to the tax burden that we as Americans currently have to bear. (For your information click here for your state's Tax Freedom Day) That certainly won't kill the current boosts we've had. Of course all of that burden will be added to the evil rich who have earned all of their money due to hard work, oops I mean off the backs of poor minorities.

Next...

To his credit, Mr. Kerry has said he won't cut and run from Iraq, but he says precious little else other than that he'd somehow persuade the U.N. and France to help. Good luck with that. As a political matter, the betting seems to be that Democrats can get away with saying little because voters will simply blame Mr. Bush for any new terror attack or more trouble in Iraq. Look for Democrats to repeat the words "strong" or "strength" a few thousand times this week, a mantra in lieu of policy.

We don't need the French, or the UN. They have proven repeatedly how useless they are. I truly think the Liberals are hoping for another terrorist attack so that they can blame Bush for failing to protect us. I think that would backfire on Kerry as he has not shown any backbone on his plan for national security.

All of which shows that Mr. Kerry and his party aren't running on ideology. They have been running mainly on character and the Senator's biography as the anti-Bush. He won three purple hearts in Vietnam while Mr. Bush stayed home in the National Guard. He's smart and sees the nuances of issues that the uncurious and witless Mr. Bush doesn't. He'd get the Europeans to love us again, while Mr. Bush the cowboy cannot.

Perhaps the voters will find this reason enough to return Democrats to power. But we wonder. Successful challengers to incumbent Presidents are usually associated with some cause larger than themselves. Bill Clinton ran on the economy and health care in 1992, while Reaganism was the confluence of a generation of conservative ideas on economics, foreign policy and the culture. Is there a single idea, even one, that any voter could yet associate with a Kerry Presidency? This would be the week to let the country in on one.

John Kerry has no vision for what this great country can do. He is simply running on the hate Bush ticket. I hope that America wakes up and realizes that Kerry is not good for this country.

Still hilarious

I can't get over how funny this is.

This Land

Save ten Bucks

Thanks to The Patriette The first theory is that it's the aftereffect of the blacklisting era that has cast conservatives in the role of industry enemy, a tradition carried on by those not even conceived yet in the 1950s. The more likely answer is simple: Liberalism is akin to a long-running Hollywood fad. Personal accountability can be a foreign concept when you have a publicist to get you out of any jam. Taxes are easier to swallow when you bring in $10 million a film. Marxism sounds vaguely groovy and compassionate when you live in the Hollywood Hills, as opposed to under any of the regimes responsible for between 85 million and 100 million deaths in the last century. Celebs like to see it as a heightened global consciousness--excluding global realities like, say, terrorism--and make their scheduled appearances for the television cameras on Skid Row, dishing out turkey and green beans for the homeless."

It was interesting to see the list of those brave enough to come forward and state their party affiliation.

In addition to Gov. They need all the support they can get as they are helping our country re-build theirs after the many years under Saddam's rule.

A Very Sad Article

Unfortunately rumors of Robby Gordon being dropped by Richard Childress Racing have been proven untrue.

I can honestly say that the racing community would be better off without Robby “Crash” Gordon gracing the speedways of America. In fact it would be better if he were to crash out of every race before it starts. It would save a lot of other teams copious amounts of money and points in the NASCAR standings.

I don’t wish any physical harm to Robby, and thanks to the advances that have been made to ensure the safety of the drivers, none would likely happen if he were to do us all a favor and drive into the wall as soon as he pulled his car onto the track.

Ahhh! Public Schools.

In another episode of "I can't believe a government run organization is failing," Public schools are scrambling to meet the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) laws enacted in 2002. This is another attempt by our President to try and fix a broken system that refuses to be fixed.

The schools are scrambling to meet the test score results in order to not get a failing grade. In order to do this, many schools I believe, will drill the exact material that is covered on the test and nothing more. Is this really helping our children? Or is this another attempt at doing just enough to ensure Federal money keeps flowing into the garbage disposal that is Public schools?

The answer is not to keep throwing money at the problem. The real problem is the National Education Association (NEA) and its drive to keep lazy and unqualified teachers on the government payroll. I know this may surprise you, but the NEA's president Reg Weaver is calling for more funding instead of seeking ways to remove inadequate teachers and actually teaching our nation's youth. The NEA needs to stop trying to use our Public Schools as a social engineering experiment to try and teach tolerance of all that is wrong in our society. Get back to teaching our children and leave the raising of our kids to us parents. Ultimately it's up to us to raise our children. The President needs to push for privatization of schooling and let parents choose where they want their tax money spent for education.

Related topics:

From a friend's blog "On Education" (last post on the page)

The Christian Science Monitor

Viable alternative:

INCH

NHEN

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://watdanook.blogspot.com/2004_04_01_archive.html#108176204197471578' title='Ahhh! Ted Kennedy needs to be put in his place by every member of the US Senate. His inflammatory remarks do nothing but drag this country down further all to try and gain votes for the Presidential race. He is nothing more than the lap dog of John Kerry. The act of politicizing this war is reprehensible at the least. Our troops deserve better than this while they are fighting in this war. They are doing an awesome job of rebuilding a nation destroyed by greedy leadership, but you never see any of that in the press do you. Instead you get Katie "I'm a communist" Couric saying that the people of Iraq had it better under the "ultimate referee" Saddam Hussein. I just don't understand liberals. They claim to be the more compassionate of us, yet the freeing of millions of Arabs under two different hostile regimes means nothing to them. All it is, is a case of Bush bashing at every possible moment. When will libs understand? I guess when they can see through the hate they have of one man and really open their eyes to the good we are doing in Iraq.

Couric article

Some good news from Iraq

Traitors and cowards

In an article from the nether regions of the world, Denmark I think, the author shows his obvious contempt and ignorance of the US military. The US military is not a Democracy where everyone has a vote in where they are to serve, and when they are needed. Commanders do not stand in front of their companies and take a vote as to what they are going to do. They are given orders and expect their orders to be carried out. The men and women who are fleeing to Canada are traitors and cowards, and as such should be returned to the US in shackles, tried and executed for deserting. There are different ways of getting your point across with out deserting and giving a hand hold for the enemies of the US. Becoming a conscientious objector can get you re-assigned to a non-combative role in the war.

Being a veteran of the first Gulf War I have very strong opinions on the subject of serving your country. I like those mentioned in the article signed up for the promise of assistance in my education, but I went in knowing full well the implications of my decision. During Basic training you are trained to kill your enemy with small arms and hand to hand combat. There is no doubt in what they are training you to do. By then if you don't think you can handle it you should request a discharge and get out. Those that join only for the promise of assistance in their education are joining for the wrong reason. The opportunity to serve your country by defending it from it's enemies is a great honor that isn't to be taken lightly. I think that every person in the US should have mandatory service of some sort. I don't think that everyone should be forced to serve in the military, after all it's not for everyone, but there are countless other capacities to choose from in order to strengthen and benefit our country.

Only Sunday???

In an article on Yahoo's web site the Pope states that Sunday is a day for God, and that entertainment and sports are taking away from that "special day" set apart for God.

My question is why only Sunday? I believe that every day is to be set apart for God, and that every aspect in your life should be dictated by what God's will for your life is. Sunday is set apart as a day of rest to recoup after working hard for six days. I go to church on Sunday to share in fellowship with other believers. The rest of the day is used for relaxing with my family. For us that includes watching the NASCAR race that happens to be on that week. If relaxing for you is taking a walk with your wife and kids go for it. If it includes planting a few flowers go for it.

For the Pope to point out only one day as "a day for God" sets people up for the belief that God doesn't matter the rest of the week. They can go about their lives without seeking God's will or following His commands. Unfortunately in my extremely limited exposure to Catholics this is exactly how they choose to view their lives. They can do anything they want as long as they go to confession and tell a priest what they have done. I know this is probably not the view of most Catholics, as I said I have very limited exposure.

I strive to listen to God's calling on my life and to live my live as best I can in this frail and faulty body I have. I fail every day, so please don't call me judgmental.

Finally a Democrat who understands.

Democratic Senator Zell Miller from Georgia has begun campaigning for a Presidential candidate. But it is not John Kerry. Disgusted by where his party has been heading in terms of issues he has endorsed President Bush and started a "Democrats for Bush" effort.

What a relief to finally see a Democrat who isn't interested in playing partisan politics and sees the problems inherent in the Democratic party. John Kerry's tax plans and his strategy on the war on terror are the biggest issues that Miller states as his reason for endorsing Bush.

See story.

I hope that more Democrats can open their eyes and see where their party is leading them. John Kerry would prefer to hand over our nation's sovereignty to the United Nations (UN) and have them decide when and where we should be defending ourselves. It is my firmest belief that the U.S. should pull out of the UN and remove it's stench from our borders. The UN has proved what a worthless organization it is in terms of protecting the world from would be Hitlers. The UN calmly sat back while thousands of Iraqis were slaughtered by Saddam Hussein.

Now the UN's Human Rights body is condemning Israel for killing a known terrorist. The UN just doesn't seem to get that they can't bargain with terrorists. The only thing that will work on these groups is to continue to hit them back twice as hard. Israel ought to be applauded for removing a known instigator of terror in their country.

Can anyone say waste of money?

SOCIAL SECURITY IS GOING BROKE?!?!?!?!?
